I’ve had a cat in the past and it was the easiest thing ever to train it how to use a kitty litter. now that I have a dog it’s the hardest thing ever to teach him not to use the house as a toilet. I know that some learn faster than others, but my question is, why do dogs have such a hard time with that and cats don’t? It already seems to be preinstalled in cats.

How to keep the dogs and the cats from eating each others food?
Im not here asked:
I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. The cats food is in the pantry on the bottom shelf they have to jump up to get it. The Lab can get to it sometimes and my 4 mth Pug can jump up there too. I don’t want the Pug or the Lab eating cat food. The Pugs food is in a lower cabinet so the Lab doesn’t eat his food but the cats eat it and usually the Lab manages to squeeze enough of himself in to eat the Pugs food too! No one eats the Labs food because he wolfs it down when it is given to him. How can I create individual eating enviroments for the cats, the Pug, and the Lab without everyone eating everyone elses food? AND without me having to stand guard.
My 4mth old Pug needs to have free range of his food and if you can get a cat to eat on demand then you must be god!
I’m gonna try the dryer as a new food place but I have a feeling the Lab will be able to get to it. He is huge!! I’m 5′5″ and when he can put his paws on my shoulders we are eye to eye. I have tried to put the cat food on the higher shelf but it becomes a mess, they knock down everything just trying to get up there. I’d like to make a cut out in one of the cabinets but the pug is smaller than the cats so it won’t stop him and he’s the one I worry about the most. He would prefer the cat food but he needs his High Quality food for puppy growth. AAARRRGGGHH!!!!!! Animals you can’t live with them BUT I’d never live without them!!!

I really need to know if I can apply most human meds over the counter to give her some relief. Vets charge so much and would like to be able to treat her just from the pharmacy.

How should I introduce my puppy to adult cats?
snowprincess1313 asked:
I have a 5.5 month old samoyed puppy. She is fairly well trained, although a bit stubborn, and plays very well with other dogs. She also loves all people. Next week we are going to a friend’s house for spring break (only staying one night) and they have two cats. One is a neutered male somewhere between 2 and 6 years old (I’m not sure), and the other is an unspayed female between 1 and 5 years old.
The only time my puppy has seen cats was at the vets office, when she saw them in crates recovering from operations. She barked and growled at them then, so I don’t know how she’ll respond to seeing a normal, alert cat. She does have a hunting instinct toward small animals (she’s killed a few mice in the backyard) but she is still friendly toward very small dogs. The cats have never lived with dogs. Can you please give me some tips on introducing the puppy to the cats? Thanks in advance.
I’d rather not keep them seperated because I eventually plan on getting a cat. Otherwise, thanks for the answers so far!

Would cats with Feline Leukemia pass the virus to a dog?
janet899 asked:
I am trying to do a favor to a friend who has a kitten tested out to have feline leukemia. I offered to board the kitten for a few months so that she is seperated from the other kittens. However, I have a small dog, Shih Tzu, and I want to make sure the virus would not pass to my dog in any way before I take the kitten.

Dog aggression (a specific scenario) ?
bunny_love04 asked:
My aunt in China has 3 dogs in her house (a Tibetan Mastiff, A German Shepard, and one other breed, can’t remember the name, she’s the smallest one of all. We’ll call her Dudu). So Dudu came first to the family. Several years later the Mastiff and German Shepard joined the family. At first everything was harmonic until one day…
Ok… so when my uncle comes home everyday he greets the 3 dogs in order and he always picks up Dudu first. However, one day he came home a little drunk and greeted the German Shepard first (the shepard somehow got in front of Dudu. Dudu was jealous and bit the German Shepard. That angered the German Shepard and she first bit my uncle and then all 3 dogs plus 2 people (my aunt and uncle) got into a fight (yea, picture that).
So ever since then every time the German Shepard sees Dudu she will attack and bit Dudu like crazy. Poor Dudu now has wounds everywhere. My aunt has no other choice but to separate the two (Dudu inside the house, Shepard outside). I wonder, for all the animal behavior experts out there… can the Shepard’s behavior be corrected? I know that they are not willing to give up neither of them. But can they live happily ever again?
This is why I only have a Bengal cat in the family. No dog fights. =P
Thanks!
I think it’s 100% jealousy. My uncle goes on business trips a lot so when he is not home my aunt is the only one breaking off the fight. According to her the fights are pretty intense. Therefore I don’t think a water gun will solve the problem. I’ll def ask her to try though (but I think she’s too scared to let the 2 dogs meet each other again now).
All 3 dogs are female.

How do Cats and Dogs know which is cat food and which is dog food?
Aneleh asked:
I have 2 cats and three dogs. One night, I ran out of cat food (the dry type) and my cats were hungry. So since I had dog food only and the shops were closed, I gave them dog kibbles. They’re more or less of the same shape and size and are made of the same ingredients - chicken. My cats took a nibble and refused the rest of the bowl, preferring to go hungry than eat dog food. The next day, i got them a fresh pack of made-for-cats kibbles and they immediately dived in and ate up. How come my cats knew what I gave them wasn’t cat food?
I also know of dogs that won’t eat cat food for the long run (not mine though, cos they’re pigs and will eat anything).
It would be good if a pet food manufacturer can answer this question. Is there some special ingredient you put in cat and dog food that makes cats and dogs know which kibbles is who’s? Also, nowadays, dogs are eating fish too - like salmon. You can’t say it’s the ingredient. How come they know the difference?
