What breed of cat do i get?

Dream lover asked:

I have a 7 month old lhasa-Apso (dog) and am now considering getting a cat. I’m not in a hurry because i want to make sure i get the right one for me. Keep in mind i’ve never owned a cat, just dogs. I’m experienced at litter training (my dog is litter trained) and am currently reading up on cats and the responsibilities associated with having them. i want a cat-breed that is going to be okay for when i have to go to work (my dog is used to that now), and one that has hypoallergenic coats and preferably furry (but would consider one that isnt furry). I want a lap cat (important!). I thought of a “Ragdoll” and those are pretty and all, but i cant have them because they shed. ***Important that the breed be one that is okay with kids. i dont have kids but i have neices and nephews. also important that the breed is okay with dogs, though i understand that some of the things i’ve listed here arent breed-specific as they depend on the cat itself*
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Thanks a lot for the responses! And yes, i would not purchase a cat… i’ll be adopting! But i wanted to know the specific sort of cat/kitten to look for because (for example,) it wouldnt matter to me how well i get along with one if it is one that sheds a lot.

Looking into the Russian Blue… and the Siamese.thanks!

The Devon Rex is my favorite cat, but they are so incredibly expensive. Is there a place where you can get pure bred cats for, not cheap, but a decent price? Not only Devon Rexes, but other cats as well?

How do you teach cats to eat out of their own food bowls?

dgrissmer asked:

I have 1 kitten who is 3 months old and one adult cat who is 5 years old. Since both cats need different kinds of food (kitten food which has nutrients found in a mother’s milk, and adult formula that has nutrients designed for older cats), I have two separate food bowls. One for the kitten and one for the older cat. The older cat steals food from the kittens bowl which is making her overweight, and the younger one is stealing food from the older cat’s food bowl. I’ve tried mixing some kitten food in with the adult food, but that hasn’t worked. I’ve tried putting the bowls in differnt spots in the house which also hasn’t worked. What would you suggest? Thanks.

Cat breed question! Help Please?

Miss Fish asked:

I have 3 cats, i think one of them is a snowshoe, and i think the 2 others are California spangled cats.

The snowshoe is all black with a white lower tummy, a white neck, white paws and some white on her face: Is this what a snowshoe cat would look like? If not, what other breed of cat could it be?

The two California cats: one is a peachy color with some dark peachy spots, and the other is light & dark grey with a little bit of orange on her back and face. They are brother and sister so they should be the same breed, right? If they are not california spangled, what else could they be?

Names for my cat ?

♥–ERIKA. asked:

So, my cat brought home this random stray.
I put a collar on him [just so animal control wouldn't take him] at first since he was skiddish about coming in my house & all.
I put up posters, placed an ad in the newspaper for 2 weeks, and posted found kitten ads all over the net.
No one has claimed him & it’s been nearly a month.
Now, whenever I open to door to let my cat in he waltses right in, so I called AVA [some animal rescue program] & I asked if they could help him find a forever home - the woman on the phone rambled if it took him that long to get comfortable with me then it would be hard + if I could keep him I jsut should.
So, I need a name for this little fella!
My other cat is Turkey - but Idk if I want to name him chicken ;
here is a pic to help.

How to keep the dogs and the cats from eating each others food?

Im not here asked:

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. The cats food is in the pantry on the bottom shelf they have to jump up to get it. The Lab can get to it sometimes and my 4 mth Pug can jump up there too. I don’t want the Pug or the Lab eating cat food. The Pugs food is in a lower cabinet so the Lab doesn’t eat his food but the cats eat it and usually the Lab manages to squeeze enough of himself in to eat the Pugs food too! No one eats the Labs food because he wolfs it down when it is given to him. How can I create individual eating enviroments for the cats, the Pug, and the Lab without everyone eating everyone elses food? AND without me having to stand guard.
My 4mth old Pug needs to have free range of his food and if you can get a cat to eat on demand then you must be god!

I’m gonna try the dryer as a new food place but I have a feeling the Lab will be able to get to it. He is huge!! I’m 5′5″ and when he can put his paws on my shoulders we are eye to eye. I have tried to put the cat food on the higher shelf but it becomes a mess, they knock down everything just trying to get up there. I’d like to make a cut out in one of the cabinets but the pug is smaller than the cats so it won’t stop him and he’s the one I worry about the most. He would prefer the cat food but he needs his High Quality food for puppy growth. AAARRRGGGHH!!!!!! Animals you can’t live with them BUT I’d never live without them!!!
